Capsicum chinense
An extreme habanero with enough heat to satisfy even the most demanding chilli head. The cone-shaped fruit measure 2.5 x 5.5cm and turn from green to bright yellow (or maybe almost orange) as they mature. Break one open, and a wonderfully fragrant aroma wafts out: strong, distinctive and more-ish.
A great chilli for making pastes and sauces, cooking African and Caribbean food, and adding to soups and stews.
The bushy, medium-tall plants can be grown in 7.5 to 10 litre pots. Though fairly short, they will need support so that they don’t fall over.
Heat level: extremely hot (approx. 263,000 SHU)
