Kenikir is a cosmos. Cosmos Sulphureus is the only species in the cosmos family that is edible.
Winner of the "All America Selections" Award in 2000. The bright yellow flowers are sure to attract pollinators from early summer through until fall. Kenikir is edible with its strong, pungent flavour a staple in Indonesian cooking. Young shoots are eaten raw, mixed with coconut or cooked with greens. Flowers are sweet and reputed to purify blood. Provides beautiful cut arrangements. Prefers full sun and well drained soil. Easy to grow as Kenikir is extremely hardy and tolerates poor soil conditions. Self seeds. Ht 3-6ft (90-180cm).
When to Harvest: Leaves are edible, pick before flowering. Pick flowers as soon as the petals open.
