Annual. 60 days to maturity. May perform as a short-lived woody perennial in zones 8 to 12.
Native to Southern Europe and the Mediterranean, with the gene center in Portugal. Culinary spice used for flavoring pizza or the holiday goose, sausage, and myriads of vegetarian cornucopic delights. Plant prefers full sun and pot culture or regular garden soil. Sow in spring, in pots or directly in the garden. Keep barely covered, well-tamped, and evenly moist until germination. Marjoram is the definitive plant for the kitchen garden and is excellent when used fresh or dried. Diminutive but potent. Space plants 1 foot apart.
