Taiga is a new large "heart" tomato, bred by Karen Olivier (True North Tomatoes). Ripe fruits are large green hearts with marbling most prominent at the blossom end. Taiga is a vigorous and productive "potato-leaf" variety with wispy leaves -- producing ripe fruits approximately 75-80 days after transplant in our field. Fruits have very few seeds. Taiga has some yellow on the inside and is a little later than True Colours
Due to it's excellent flavor and the amazing size and shape uniformity (rare among heart-shaped tomatoes) Taiga is an excellent variety for chefs.
Taiga is the Russian word for boreal or snow forest that covers much of Canada.
This variety was bred in Canada and was recently released by the breeder -- Karen Olivier. To read more about Karen's varieties please visit her Northern Gardener page on Facebook.
